InterLynk Strongly Represented at the World Biomaterials Congress in Daegu, Korea

The World Biomaterials Congress (WBC), a pivotal event in the biomaterials sector, gathers over 4,000 participants from around the globe every four years. This year, from May 26 to May 31, the congress will convene in Daegu, Korea, featuring more than 260 scientific symposia and over 100 industry exhibitions. Aligned with the congress' theme, 'Convergence in Biomaterials: A Vision for the Future of Healthcare,' researchers from the InterLynk project will play a central role, participating as speakers, session chairs, and exhibitors.

Plenary Highlights:

Prof. João Mano InterLynk Coordinator from the University of Aveiro will be one of the congress's distinguished plenary speakers. On May 30th, from 9:00 to 10:00 (KST/UTC+9), he will delve into "The Human Body as the Source of Biomaterials," a presentation expected to offer significant insights into the field. Read our full story here.

In the session on Frontiers in Biofabrication Technologies:

Prof. Lorenzo Moroni from our partner institution, Maastricht University, will chair the session and discuss "Matryoshka-inspired Biological Constructs to Mimic Skeletal Niche for Osteochondral Regeneration" on May 27th, from 16:55 to 17:10.

Joanna Babilotte (Maastricht University) will present "Bioinspired Scaffolds for the Regeneration of the Temporomandibular Joint" on May 27th, from 17:40 to 17:50.

In the session on Novel and Multiple Fabrication Processes:

Monize Caiado Decarli (Maastricht University) will explore the "Formulation and Bioprinting of Xanthan Gum/Iron Hydrogels with Tunable Stiffness" on May 27th, from 13:50 to 14:00.

In Biofunctional Material and Its Use in Medical Device Application:

Tiago Correia, InterLynk scientist from the University of Aveiro, will share "Minimalistic Strategies for Designing New Biomaterial Solutions: From Thin Platforms to Living Materials" on May 27th, from 15:50 to 16:00.

In Precision Medicine in Biomaterials Application for Regeneration:

Catarina Custodio, Co-Founder of our partner institute Metatissue, will present on "Revolutionizing Drug Screening: Harnessing Human Protein-based Materials for Ethical and Accelerated In Vitro Testing" on May 29th, from 14:35 to 14:45 in Room 322.

Oral Sessions:

Susana Olhero from the University of Aveiro, will chair the Bioceramics session and discuss "Self-setting 3D Printed Calcium Phosphate-based Bone Substitutes with Enhanced Bioactivity" on May 28th, from 9:10 to 9:20.

Rita Sobreiro-Almeida, also from the University of Aveiro, will chair a session on Natural Biomaterials for Regenerative Medicine and discuss "Using Blood Components to Engineer Highly Bioactive and Customized Implantable Biomaterials" on May 28th, from 8:40 to 8:50.

Biomaterials Design for Immunoengineering and Tissue Interface Engineering:

Kuros Biosciences will present critical research findings, including "An Osteoinductive Bone Graft with Submicron Surface Topography in a Clinically-relevant Sheep Posterolateral Lumbar Spine Fusion Model" on May 31st, from 10:25 to 10:35, and "Biological Performance in Mini Pigs of 3D Ti6Al4V–beta Calcium Phosphate Composite Scaffolds" on May 28th, from 10:45 to 10:55.

Poster Presentations:

Researchers from Kuros Biosciences, Maastricht University, Universidade de Aveiro, and INEGI will also be presenting posters, showcasing their latest findings and innovations in biomaterials.
