Scientific excellence of InterLynk coordinator recognised in the distinguished 2020 George Winter Award conferred by the European Society of Biomaterials

InterLynk scientist and coordinator, Prof. Dr. João Mano from the University of Aveiro (Portugal) has been granted the prestigious George Winter Award for his exceptional research achievements in the field of biomaterials. 

In remembrance of George D. Winter, scientist and first president of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB), the reward recognizes, encourages and stimulates exceptional research contributions in the field of biomaterials. The price is awarded annually during the ESB conference to researchers who have contributed significantly to knowledge in the field of biomaterials through basic, experimental and/or clinical research.

Prof. Mano is a full professor in the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro and a Principal Investogator at CICEO – the Aveiro Institute of Materials, where he has founded and has been directing the COMPASS Research Group. His current research interests which in part find expression in the InterLynk project, include the use of biomaterials and cells towards the development of transdisciplinary concepts to be used in particular in regenerative and personalised medicine.

This year’s Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials, where Prof. Mano also held the inaugural plenary lecture took place online out of Porto from 5 – 9 September 2021.
